Welcome to the Isleworth Society Website

A Walk Through History
It's been a long time coming but at last it's here. The Rivers and Byways walk leaflet, published by the Isleworth Society, was launched on Wednesday June 16th with a social on board the Cathja barge.

The colour leaflet, complete with maps and beautifully illustrated, describes a circular walk through Isleworth parks, along the Duke of Northumberland's River, and by the Thames.  The complete walk, of 3 ½ miles, takes over two hours at a gentle pace, but no need to do the whole walk at once  - even just reading the leaflet is a pleasure.

Funding from the Awards for All Lottery and the Isleworth and Brentford Area Committee (London Borough of Hounslow) has financed the leaflet.  Among many contributors special mention should be made of Christine Diwell, who dreamt up the route, Kevin Hicks (design and photography) and the artists of Cathja barge who contributed the line drawn illustrations.

The leaflet is currently in course of being distributed to be available free at local libraries, museums, Isleworth Public Hall, churches and community halls.

The Isleworth Society
Originally known as the Friends of Old Isleworth, today the Isleworth Society embraces a wider brief than the riverside area. It remains non-political and non-sectarian; its main objectives being to:

- Promote high standards of architecture in or affecting the area

- Educate the public in the geography, history and natural history and architecture of the area

- Secure the preservation, protection, development and improvement of features
of historic or public interest
The TIS Comitee meets every six weeks to discuss matters of general interest and any changes/or improvements that might have been proposed in the area, with a view to protecting and enhancing Isleworth.

The Planning Sub-Committee monitors planning application and takes action where necessary, by representations to the local council and/or developers, and attending relevant meetings and enquiries.

Newsletters are distributed twice a year to all members. These contain items of local interest, reports of events, achievements and forthcoming activities.
Over the years community projects have been many and varied, including:-
- Taking a lead in the listing of Isleworth Public Hall. This building has played a pivotal part in community life since it was built in 1863 with public funds
- Regular planting of Isleworth's two horse troughs
- Painting the railings outside All Saints Church
- Litter picking days and graffiti clean ups
- Planting trees on Isleworth Green and by the Glossop Memorial
- Obtaining a grant to replace the children's play area fencing in Silverhall Park
